Rhae Mae and her new family

Still on the north side

May 17, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

Both peregrines were on the north side of the Four Seasons Hotel when I checked the area at 11:15am. Ranger was again on the west balcony ledge and Hunter was on the one just to the east of her.  Earlier, at 8:50am, both birds were circling various buildings at Bay and Bloor, touching down briefly on the south-east corner of 77 Bloor West.

Doing Well

May 17, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

An early check of the webcam and looks like all is well. The adult has the chicks covered as it is a little damp this morning.
Reports from the area, indicate that the adults are heard throughout the day.
Today is a little overcast and calling for rain later.

An Early Start

May 17, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

An Early start to the day, captured from the webcam an adult is seeing feeding the three chicks. Not sure if it’s Rhea Mae or Tiago, since Tiago does help with feedings.

Travelling Family

Family is clearly moving around the nest ledge and are now out of sight from the webcam. They’re still there, just not in camera sight.

Two chicks on the go Shows family outside of camera range but still on nesting ledge

That’s a surprise

May 16, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

What a surprise it was to discover that it is Tiago feeding the little ones!
I was checking to ensure that all is well and timed it just right to see food come to the nest. Just assuming that it was Rhea Mae, as I watch little bits of food be distubuted. I found it a little odd at first where the adult was standing and when I checked the legs bands, it was Tiago.

Possible second nest failure

May 16, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Harry Crawford Reports:

When I arrived in Yorkville at 11am, both Hunter and Ranger were visible on the north side of the Four Seasons Hotel. Ranger was on the ledge of the first nest balcony, the furthest one to the west.  She was resting on one foot and was still there when I left the area fifteen minutes later. Hunter was on the ledge of the balcony two to the east. Is this a sign that the second nest, the one on the
east side, has failed? Hunter continues to make brief trips to the CIBC building.

Growing Quickly

May 15, 2008 - Toronto - King Street

Linda Woods Reports:

King St. nest is doing well, the chicks are growing quickly. Soon it will be time to band them, which tentatively is June 3rd. Keep watching the website for confirmation on date and time. We also will be needing extra volunteers for the fledge watch. With Both the Sheraton and King St. nest approx. the same age, the flying time will be close and very busy.
Early morning, and after 6p.m. shifts are needed for both King St. and the Sheraton Centre.

!!! Sad News

May 15, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Linda Woods Reports:

It has been a little difficult these past few days to understand that the Sheraton Nest has lost one chick. It apparently died through the night and Rhea Mae disposed of the remains.
No one knows what happened, or why. There was nothing out of the ordinary to indicate such an event would happen.
The three remaining chicks are doing well.

!!! Second clutch of eggs gone missing

May 15, 2008 - Toronto - Four Seasons

Mark Nash Reports:

Sadly,we have received and update on Ranger and Hunter that has confirmed our observations.

Ranger and Hunter created a second nesting site, which we had reported to you last week. This nesting site was located on the buildings North East Side and was absolutely inaccessible to the public. Reports indicated that the nest had three eggs but it was later confirmed that four eggs were present.

With this being said, sadly I must report that while conducting a general patrol this morning, I passed by the nesting site and neither Ranger nor Hunter were present. Upon further inspection I noted that all four of the eggs were also gone.
