June 9th, 2006 -- A short time on the weigh scales helps determine both the health and sex of each of the chicks. The females are larger (and heavier) than the males. At the time of banding, male chicks usually weigh 650 grams or under. At this age, female chicks usually weigh more than 750 grams.
