This is an email we received from Paul last night, Sunday, March 16, 2014
Went to check the birds after supper. Freddie and Voltaire were on the same ledge on West Side of Bridge. Saw Voltaire go into new nest location. Stayed 15 minutes in there, then circled above me 3-4 times then went back to see Freddie.
That’s it for tonight,
Paul

Yesterday we took a drive to the Bridge to check on Freddie and Voltaire. Freddie was sitting on the West cable, after a few minutes he flew off to the East. Voltaire was sitting on the Church Steeple busy preening herself. We sat there and watched them, it was a quiet day. Then before we left the Site, both of them were flying around together. It was good to see them again. Happy New Year to everyone. Thank You to Marilyn, Marliese and Paul and the Volunteers for doing such a good job being so faithful in watching the Peregrines.

Dennis Patrick Reports:
On Sunday, Marilyn stopped by the Bridge and spotted Voltaire sitting on the nest ledge briefly. Voltaire flew off and reappeared after a few minutes perched on the steeple of Assumption Church.
Today, Dennis and Gwen were in the neighbourhood of the Bridge and reported seeing both Freddie and Voltaire sitting on the east side of the bridge abutment and were busy preening. They were quite vocal as Dennis and Gwen observed them while eating lunch.
The Bridge Company has been doing repairs and painting the abutment. As a result, the nest tray is temporarily removed, but it seems that Freddie and Voltaire are still committed to their nest site.

Last week while at a meeting at the University of Windsor, I was pleased to see Freddie and Voltaire perched on the steeple of Assumption Church. Despite construction on the bridge, they are keeping watch on their nest site and staying close as ever.

The Windsor Peregrine Watch team received an update from the Michigan Dept of Natural Resources letting us know that they re-hydrated Gwenis after her episode of visiting the pigeon smorgasbord (captured in a pigeon trap) and she was released into the wild where she is now, presumably, looking for her own nesting spot. We are grateful for the care she received from the Michigan DNR and are glad that she is back in the skies again!

On Sept 25th some of the Windsor Falcon Watch Volunteers met at the Ambassador bridge with Dan Reaume, Bridge Manager of the International Transit Company/Detroit International Bridge. This was an opportunity to show our recognition and appreciation of his efforts to support the resident peregrine falcons and their offspring over the last six years by presenting him with a photo montage of the falcons created by Gerald Peltier. Every year the bridge company supplies a cherry picker and volunteer for the banding process and they have repeatedly come to the rescue of grounded fledglings by helping to put them up on a roof. Their installation of a nest box has also greatly contributed to the survival rate of the youngsters. We look forward to the continued support of the company in our volunteer efforts.

A few days ago I received an email from Barb Baldinger in Michigan that Gwenis was found in Allen Park healthy and hopefully a little wiser after entering a pigeon trap in the hopes of an easy lunch. She was taken from the trap to a local rehabber where she checked out very well and should be released shortly after some rest, food and rehydration. Thank you to our friends Barb and Chris in Michigan for taking such good care of her and sharing her story with us. Hopefully Gwenis has learned that there really isn’t an “easy lunch” in these pigeon traps and steers clear!!

This is an email we received from Marlise, Thank You to all of the team members that took over for us this year. They are doing a great job and we are very happy to know that the Peregrines are still in good eyes and hands.
Greetings all from Marliese, Paul and Marilyn.
In case you are curious: some of us are still hanging out at the bridge, usually between 7 and 8 pm. Paul is the most faithful observer. He reports that Voltaire and Freddie can be seen most nights, but the youngsters are sporadic. We usually do spot at least one. We think they may have found another nightime resting place. But we have seen all three of them in the last week, and they do seem to be bringing their own food, although there is still occasional ‘feed me’ screeching.

We stopped by the Bridge this afternoon, at first very quiet and then very loud. All three of the kids were flying very high in the sky, Hercules landed on the main beam, Freddie landed on his favorite spot. Voltaire and the other two kids flew away. It was good to see all five of the Peregrine Family once again. The blue tape was very visible on Hercules.

This is an email that we received about another nest downtown, Thank You to Marilyn who sent the email to us.
Just wanted to give you an update on the downtown pair. They have been sitting on the “H” of the Chrysler building for a few hours today. Lunch was a la pigeon. The one, which I believe may be the male as it seems slightly smaller, does not appear to have any bands on either leg. The other one has only a black band. They seem quite content just to nap up high, feast & watch the world go by.
