June 29, 2013 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton
Marion Nash Reports:
Spent two hours waiting for and then watching the peregrines.
One of the femasles flew onto the crane down Duplex Ave so they are starting to spread out farther.
Haven did an in-air transfer of a pigeon (???) to Imagine. I did not get band colour and I am going only by size. Imagine is a very large female! Imagine flew to the Canada Square roof, south end and barely made it but did not let go of the food parcel !!
Cheers

Marion Nash Reports:
June 28th - 2013
Not a big report today due to the inclement weather and the fact that I only went out after 5:45pm
Saw all three young yelling for food from the top of the black building. Haven was picking up scraps for them but it was not enough to keep them quiet.
At 6:07 Stormin almost caused me to have a heart attack. He chased a pigeon from over the black building, across the old bus bays and across Eglinton Ave. By the time he was over Eglinton he was UNDER CAR ROOF height and just missed a car. The pigeon he was chasing went that low and he followed. When over the sidewalk he pulled into a steep curve and climb and missed the Rio-Can building by a whisker! The pigeon escaped - this time!
NOT FUNNY Stormin!!!!
Cheers

All three looking good and again RamJet bugged his sisters learning the chase.
5:01 PM all three young in the air. All flying more confidently.
5:04 Haven flew in with food parcel Tinia took it - (red tape evident later on)
5:05 Stormin flew in with food package and began prepping it
5:06 Haven chasing a pigeon, youngster chasing Haven ( I think this was a juvie female) learning to hunt.
5:10 youngster flew to Stormin and a tug-o-war ensued - don’t know who won (this may have been Ramjet)

Reports from Lyn’s spot checks today and throughout the day saw flight from all 3 and they did well and stayed high.
There are still some awkward landings from the girls but they are learning fast. By 7:20 PM Imagine and Tinia were on the south end of Canada Square roof, Ramjet was lying down on roof of RioCan, Haven also on RioCan south face and Stormin MIA must be back at his man cave now that everyone is flying well.

Marion Nash Reports:
Not too much flying today it was just too hot.
As always I spent my birthday on the street watching the falcons, that’s Ok as they are as much my family as my human family are and I was treated to some nice show off flights from all at about 8:30 AM on and off for a couple hours with both girls flying around Young and Eglinton and over top of the nest building with Mom and Dad and the boy took a short flight and went back to his favourite shade spot on the corner ledge beside the nest ledge, at least all now have there wings and are flying very well.
Mom and Dad chased off a Turkey Vulture mid afternoon and soon after a Gull who tried to land on the roof top close to Imagine but they too were hot and did very little flying today.
Both Mom and Dad have been staying very close to the chicks this year and taking flight with them each time one took off and when 1 of them went out of site one of the parents would go and sit next to or very close to that chick so it was easy for us to find them.
They did a little hunting and feeding today but the kids were not all that interested even in food in this heat as they did take the food but not much screaming, I didn’t see the parents eat much today either.
For the next few days we will continue to spot check the kids but will wind down the all day watch as the worst part is over. The fledgelings are keeping their altitude and have learned how to recover from a missed landing , all have bumped windows and are learning to avoid them.
Now the truly amazing flights and fun will begin with the chicks flying together with the parents and learning all they need to know to make it in the world of falcons on their own so it’s up to Mom and Dad now but we will keep you posted on what we see in out spot checks and are on call just in case.
The Guards at Paragon security Canada Square have a rescue carrier and have been coached on how to do a rescue and have been part of every release back to the ledge over the years so they will keep an eye open for any problems for us as usual Thanks Guys for all your help!!!!
Lyn and I also want to thank 53 Division police for being so accommodating over the years letting us use the property as our watch location where we set up outside their window on Duplex, letting us use the washrooms, come in and sit in the air conditioning to cool down and helping us rescue Tinia they were and have always been great with us and ask about the birds every day.
Sorry there have been no pictures but we did not have a photographer volunteer at this site this year when things settle down at the other sites maybe we can get out and take a few.

Marion Nash Reports:
On arrival this morning Ranjet was on the SW corner of Canada Square
Tinia same place we left her last night
Imagine had obviously took her first flight before we got there and was on the black building between TVO and the Nest building but high.
9:27 Haven caught a pigeon, plucked it on the 4th floor of Canada Square then flew to Tania and gave it to her.
10:08 we had all three babies
Tania on the pigeon ledge 4th floor level of the black building
Imagine up on the Black building
Ramjet on sw corner ledge of Canada square who was fed a few minutes later.
By 11:00 AM it was getting very hot and all birds including the parents were feeling it and were seeking shade and became quiet.
4:51 Imagine popped up from the top of the roof to the retaining wall again from her shade spot for a few seconds and then back down, good she is still there playing peek a boo with us.
5:00 SEO C Collins from 53 division came out spoke to Marion about a bird reported by someone - down in the garden of the police station on Eglinton ave just around the corner from us. I went to look and it was Imagine she must have flown off the south end of the black building out of our site and did a circle around to the north lost altitude and bumped the station. When we got to her she was being watched over by S/Sgt M Hamilton-Greene to keep her from flying off into the traffic and he helped us catch her up then provided a box to transport her back to the nest. A very big thank you to our friends at 53 Division - E Platoon. Who allows us to sit outside on the garden wall on Duplex Ave to watch, lets use the bathrooms during the day and gives us place to come in and get cooled down when it’s blazing hot out there and now helps with rescues.
We took Imagine back to the 15 floor put her in a rescue carrier and gave lots of water to re-hydrate her, covered her carries with a towel and left her to rest up and cool down until release tonight.
5:30 Stormin circled over the bus bays over duplex ave and 53 Division looking for her Haven also did a couple circuits they had obviously seen Imagine’s flight even if we did not and were now looking for her.
6:37 Tania flew back to 4 flr ledge off the black building same level to Canada Square but missed the landing and fluttered down off the wall down low behind the old bus bays and we were off to the rescue again.
Lyn went down duplex, Marion packed her bag and set off to find Security who opened the gate into the bus bay area we searched, nothing?????
I heard calls high up on the Canada Square and it sounded like 2 babies? to our surprise and astonishmant we spotted Ramjet AND Tinia on the top roof of Canada Square.
Just as all this had started the wind had picked up and was blowing very hard with a few sprinkles of rain so she must have caught the wind like a kite and it took her up to her home another lucky bird!
8:09 Tania flew from roof Canada Square to RioCan almost to roof, brushed wall, recovered circled out and back to SW corner of RioCan where she landed on roof good flight.
8:43 Stormin flew to Canada Square roof with parcel, plucked it there circled the bus bays once more then flew up to Tania on RioCan and gave her the food.
Now we wait for dark to release Imagine. Mark Nash came to pick up Marion and helped her with the release all went very well and we found her brother was there on the balcony so we just opened the door and put her out with him and got out of there fast so we did not scare either one off.
We left at about 11:00 PM with all babies high and safe see you tomorrow.

Marion Nash Reports:
Arrived this morning to find only 1 chick on the nest and mom brought food into her an entire pigeon.. I went off to look to the other girl, Ramjet is likely high so I was not too worried about him.
I found dad on the CIBC building on the corner of Young and Eglinton so I figured he had her in site and yes I found Tinia on a low building on Young street across from the nest so we moved over to that area to keep an eye on her.
Tinia spent most of the day there and flew off at about 5:00 PM just as I had looked and I did not see what direction she went, mom and dad took a dive low over the CIBC so I assumed she was there and waited to see if she would pop up on the leading edge but she did not so the search was back on
again.
I sent Lyn back to Duplex to keep an eye on Imagine still in the nest just in case and to see if Tinia shows up there while I hit the bricks and walked down the street to get security at Canada Square to get me back up to the 15 floor so I can scan the rood tops.
Max from Peregon Security met me at the lobby of the nest building and we went up to the 15 floor to look for her but she was not in site on CIBC so it was back to the street and a walking search of the back alleys east of and behind CIBC.
About 45 minutes later Lyn radioed me to say she had all 3 chicks back at the west side of the nest building 2 at nest level and 1 at the 4th floor patio level so back I went.
Sure enough there was Tinia running back and forth the patio ledge just like the little male did last year. We hoped that she would try to fly up to the lower building between the TVO building and the nest site as it was getting late and would soon be dark but it was not to be and she will have to spend the evening there the other 2 were settled down high above her and Mom and Dad perched themselves in site of her for the night.
Hopefully she can wait for me to get there before she takes flight in the morning.

Marion Nash Reports:
We arrived this morning to find Ramjet just where we left him up on the ledge beside the nest still sleeping and the girls still on the nest.
Not much action in the morning all until 12:52 when Stormin alarm calling flew over the old bus bays then west over Duplex Ave– three Turkey Vultures flying high over Rio-Can, Canada Square and south, Mom sitting just above the nest watched and let him dispatch them out of the area.
5:03 Haven took a small bird to the nest ledge, babies came toward her nearly pushing her off the ledge so she released the bird and much to our surprise it flew off both Haven and Stormin gave chase but it escaped I expect she is trying to bring injured food to let he babies know that their food starts live and get them to do the final kill themselves.
She is weening them now so when she does feed it’s every bird for themselves and one of them grabs the food and does not want to share until they have had their fill.
6:59 Haven chased a gull that came too close to the nest back and forth, climbed high and dived on it over Y/E intersection but missed – gull yelling at every dive on it – eventually it left.
7:50 Haven and Ramjet flew from over the Y/E intersection. Haven landed on wall north of nest and RJ flew onwards and was not able to target the top and clutched onto the cement wall, then flew down, up and around, back to the level below the nest on ne corner of Canada Square and walked back to the NW corner near *mom* there he stayed until the close of the watch.
No flight at all from the girls so it’s Hurry up and wait!

Marion Nash Reports:
Finally at 12:48 Ramjet takes his first flight and maintained height and climbed about 2 floors above Canada Square and hooked around to land on one of the collumn above the nest great flight. After spending some time there he then flew to window ledge on elevator wall.
At 3:17 Haven brought in a pigeon flew out and back onto nest ledge. Ramjet in an attempt to get to mom and the food fluttered down, grabbed onto a crack in the wall and did a bat manoeuvre. Finally let go flew high over NW corner of Canada Square and disappeared from sight
3:47 Ramjet flew to Rio-Can and brushed a window then latched on – another bat manoeuvre. When he let go he flew over the gold bldg on the corner of Duplex and Eglinton then to the concrete wall of the apartment bldg which he brushed and fluttered down a bit and back onto the gold building.
5:40 he flew to Canada Square, connected with a window, lost height in spite of his dads attempt to *raise * him. He appeared to fly low around the corner and we lost him.
Lyn stayed to keep an eye on the other 2 babies while I went in to security to get access up to the 15 floor of the Canada Square building to get a look down on the lower roof where we thought he may have fluttered down to and 1 of the Paragon security guards joined me out on the 15 floor balcony to help scan the roof tops to find him.
No luck he was no whare to be found, however the adults were very aggressive with us stooping on us several times so I knew Ramjet was there somewhere and likely just above us on the roof so we hurried back into the building before Mom decided to strike us with a full contact hit Yikes she is getting very close this was the guards first encounter with Haven and you never saw a big guy move so fast to get back into the safety of the building, can’t say I blame him.
When I got back down to the street and met up with Lyn she pointed up to the ledge beside the nest and there he was right where Mom had earlier prepared the evening feeding.
The Girls have not made any flights yet but are ready to go soon.
