!!! And then there was four!

May 31, 2012 - Niagara Falls

CPF Postmaster Reports:

Visibility better today, and we could count to four! Parent in and out of the nest a few times. Can’t say for sure that there are five, but glad to see the four. This is the best shot.
Oh! I saw you on Toronto TV news last week! So glad to you spoke about the Peregrines vs Wallenda!

Hatchlings getting bigger, but still no confirmed head count.

May 29, 2012 - Niagara Falls

CPF Postmaster Reports:

May 29th - 2012
Storms were forecast so we tried to get to the gorge first. Very very misty making clear views or pix difficult. We had to walk down the path as it was too wet at Terrapin Point. We did see parent continuously blocking a good view of the little fluffballs, but they are getting bigger. Maybe we can count to five tomorrow! :)
On watch: Vicki Kadow, Roger Johnson and John Shiposki

Still unknow, 3, 4, or 5 hatchlings?? All still appear to be doing well.

May 26, 2012 - Niagara Falls

CPF Postmaster Reports:

May 26th -2012
The adults are not staying in the box all the time now, but the eyasses still huddle together, making counting them from across the gorge difficult even with Connie’s scope. At one point, when the parent, Diamond I think, left the box, she went to a patch of grass growing out of the concrete just below the box before flying off. Here are a few shots. We expect the babies to grow a lot over the next week, giving us a better chance for a count! :)

Have a great weekend,

Vicki Kadow & Roger Johnson

!!! And Then There Were 3

May 17, 2012 - Niagara Falls

Frank Butson Reports:

Our falcon watching friends in Rochester went on a road trip to Buffalo to observe from the US side our nest at Niagara Falls.

 Mak and Joyce reported:

The unbanded male, CPF calls Onyx, brought a food package and mom fed the eyases. Joyce was able to determine that there were 3 little fuzz ball heads being fed looking through my scope. So 1 egg hatched since yesterday with 2 remaining. She flew out and cached the leftovers and returned. A while later he flew in to relieve her and take over the incubation duties. I spotted her on a window south of the scrape after she flew around a bit.

!!! First two hatchlings observed!

Photos from today. Two 1-2 day old chicks so far. Female was on the nest, male flew in after about 15 min with a prey item and they each fed one of the chicks.

!!! Photo blow up of this mornings photos appears to shows 5 eggs!!

May 09, 2012 - Niagara Falls

CPF Postmaster Reports:

May 9th - 2012 - PM Analysis

After blowing up some of this morning photos, it appears that there is a distinct possibility that there are 5 eggs in the nest tray!

This might explain a later hatch than we expected. She may not have gone down into full time “cooking” as we say. Full time “hard incubation” may not started when we thought it did.
Time will tell.
