We got a call from Paul at security at the Milner ( Yellow Pages ) site. A peregrine was found dead on site. A white feather dust mark on the window along with urine marks the spot where it hit one of the windows. Mark went out to retrieve the bird and found it to be banded C over 13 it’s Nino produced at the Bloor Islington Center in 2020. Mark saw no other Peregrine on site but will be going back tomorrow to see if Lyn is there perhaps on eggs.

Update on the successful release of the rescued and newly banded chicks at Bloor and Islington Place

June 13, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

All went very well with the release this morning. There is a cage with an open end on the roof top and the chicks are placed in it one at a time with a rescue carrier at the front opening until all are out, then Mark and Lucie took the carrier and exited the roof leaving the 3 chicks to come out of the cage on their own.

Lucie, Mark and Erica watched for a while and soon saw all 3 on the leading edge of the roof then was joined by their brother who flew over to great them from the nest.

Great rescues and release thanks to everyone for the job well done!

2 Days 3 rescues and Banding today

June 11, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

Mark and Lucie rescued 2 fledglings at Bloor and Islington Place yesterday and held them over to be banded today then this report came in from Rob who was on watch this morning. He will take the bird to Lucie who has the other 2 and all 3 will be banded today.

Robs report
Big shout out to the Bell workers. A man named Ron flagged me on Bloor Street about a Falcon in the alleyway. Thankfully the bird was in a narrow spot between the fence and Bell building so catching this guy was relatively easy. He did put up a fight and ran as far away as he could before running out places to go.

Thanks Rob and Great Job everyone!!

Rob Reports all 4 have fledged

June 10, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

All 4 fledged now.

Had 3 on nest ledge when I got there. The fledged boy was no where to be seen. Eventually came in, landed on nest building. Took another flight, headed to far east building and lost height. Adult tried to help. Juvi hung off wall for about 10 seconds then flew off. It went southwest of Islington and Bloor.

Then other 3 all fledged in about 20 mins.

Two stayed on condo roof. One went to nest roof, then to condo roof and THEN it went onto the nest ledge. Fantastic incoming and landing. My heart was in my throat through it all.

Sent from my He then flew back onto the condo roof. So all 3 kids stayed up there and both adults for a while.

A person was up on condo roof and adults went crazy. It did not deter person. Ugh!

Kids all went to south edge of condo roof. Person on north end with attacking adults.

2 names for the Etobicoke 4

June 09, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

Although the chicks are unbanded this year Due to COVID-19 and the fact that only a swing stage access can be used here we decided to name them anyway as it makes it easier to post information on the fledge watch. We have asked Security to come up with a couple names and our new volunteer. So we have names of Santo and Nifio for 2 of the chicks so far.

Hi Marion and Mark.

Thank you very much for offering me to choose a couple of names for the chicks. My Mom and I choose the 2 names.
First is: “Santo”
and the Second is: “Niño”.
They both are cute words in Spanish that we use to say to my dog Nacho. We choose these names because the chicks are giving us a great support to overcome the grief for my dog’s loss and in some way we want to honor his memory.
The first name mean “saint/angel-someone that is very virtuous.
And the second name means “little boy”.

First fledg

June 09, 2020 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Marion Nash Reports:

As of close last evening Mark and Erica had not seen a fledge but expected one of the boys would go he was crazy active and flapping and running the ledge.
Rob got there at 6:00 AM and saw only 3 chicks on the nest and 1 adult. At 6:45 Am the other adult flew in and another chicks popped up on the center tower building or what we call the Starlight building roof top, must have been a very early morning fledge. 3 more to go!

Thanks Rob and Thanks to Erica for coming out to Help!
