June 17th Canada Square- Jamie is back
June 17, 2022 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton
Marion Nash Reports:
Mark dropped me off at Canada Square to head down to Mount Sinai Hospital to release Red on the roof again.
At first I did not see any of the chicks but minutes later I saw one of the fledglings fly in from the north and attempt to land on RioCan it missed and recovered and flew back for a second attempt, this time landing safely on the top under the letter C , dad flew in behind him and did a couple flyovers before taking off back to the north.
While I was looking at that chick another flew in and joined him. I watched the 2 for a few minutes and saw the bands on the last one that arrived it was yellow. So now I have Neven for sure. I kept a close eye on the other trying to get a band as they were both very active with lots of wing flapping in the wind gusts.
A movement caught my eye above the 2 and I focused by binoculars on an bump above them on the grill-work that holds the letters RioCan it was another fledgling laying down flat as a pancake. Great I have 3 fledglings.
I watched them all closely only taking my eyes off them to wipe some of the grit that was getting in my eyes stirred up by the high wind gusts whipping up the dust from the construction site.
Finally the first fledgling got close to the edge and I focused on it legs in time to catch a leg stretch there are no bands on that leg yippee it’s our unbanded Jamie.
I could see the a band color on the higher one that was on the grill work as it just would not show the lower leg.
Mark arrived at about 5:00 PM and just in time to see another fledgling fly in from the north and land with it’s siblings on RioCan. Well we get to end the day with all 4 chicks in sight and all safe.
Now that Jamie has returned and shown me he can attain and stay up on a building as high as RioCan I decided to wind down the watch to spot checks and take a couple days rest before we start the next fledge watch at another site. I think although dads job is just beginning since all the chicks seemed to have followed dad in from the north it looks like they found his man cave lol. Over the next weeks the chicks are going to learn how to be a top predator at dads top-gun peregrine school.
