Caspian and Storm On Track at Holcim
April 03, 2014 - Mississauga - Holcim
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Yesterday I was out delivering Project School Visit in Clarkson and had time between schools to stop by and visit the Holcim nest site for a check on Storm and Caspian. When I arrived, Storm was on the top of the east silos and had prey he was plucking. I was able to quickly confirm his band number before he was off and over to the ledge with the food. As he sat on the corner with his gift, his female stood up and waddled over to accept. He flew to a railing out of my sight and she flew to the buildings next to Avonhead Road to eat. It took her a while to consume her meal and she looked half asleep as she went along. Egg lethargy was quite apparent in this girl. I again got lucky and was able to confirm Caspian as the resident female while she snacked away. She finished her meal and disappeared into the ledge on which she ate and it wasn’t long before Storm was in and the two mated. He then flew up to the nest ledge while she maintained her position on the lower silos.
They were both off of the ledge for over 30 minutes and with a steady stream of Turkey vultures flying overhead I feel confident in saying that they don’t have eggs yet but they are oh so close.
Pictures to follow.
