Etobicoke Sun Life for Friday June 15th
June 23, 2013 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Bruce Massey Reports:
• Pretty uneventful morning, some flapping, 1 or 2 feedings resting.
• Around noon everyone down for Nap along rear wall. The Ledge had direct Sunlight on it.
•1345 Hrs. 1st Fledge (Green), strongly off to South, looped back to NB, Kept good height but still below ledge level. She flew between NB & Middle Building. Adult Female by this time following her and was right behind her when she disappeared. Called Baily as other Bird was active. Went checking, and when I got to Bloor & Islington the female had caught a pigeon and took it up to NW corner of middle building. I continued my Circle going over to the Parking Lot by the railway bridge. Saw nothing, but did have some feathers wafting down @ the rear of the NB, but no birds. I continued my walk and as I was coming W by the Bell building,
• 1400 Hrs- I had a juvenile PeFa come from the N, and attempt a landing on the S side of W Condo, about 5-6 floors above the Mezzanine. She slipped off, flew S over Bloor, back to the NB about 3 stories above the Mezzanine, and then fluttered to the top of the entranceway.
•1430 Hrs.- After a 1/2 Hour or so she showed up in the E gap, For the next 6.5 Hrs. she basically was in this position with several forays on to Mezzanine Roof, she also made one short flight. But most of the time she did what most females do, she answered the question how long a female (Female ) can look in a Mirror (Glass).
•2110 Hrs.- During the above time it was determined that the first fledge was by Layton, (Green Tape). After the time (6.5 Hrs), she slipped down to the sidewalk. She made a short flight startling the couple walking by @ the time. They were further surprised when 2 people came running across the street w/Towels converging on this bird. After 1 missed attempt, the bird was herded by towel to the stairs by Parking Garage Entrance and retrieved, much to Kathy’s surprise we had O’Connor the resident female coming screaming to streetlight level and indeed land on one to observe the retrieval. She actually stay there for 20 minutes or so. After the big healthy girl was put in the Rescue Carrier in the Security. We then headed back out to the street to wait for Dark as our Release Protocol dictates. Layton was successfully & safely released back onto the NB roof around 2200 Hr. and a the days watch was finished.
