All Fairly Quiet

June 06, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Frank Butson Reports:

Today the fledge watch at Islington and Bloor started. Diana had the early morning shift and reported that there was alot of flapping for awhile and then alot of nothing. When the promise of food didnt happen the chicks became inactive.

Baylie came and helped out Diana and I arrived by about 845am. Until the late evening there were no feedings. Jack did feed himself a little from a stash on the centre tower of the Sunlife Centre. Rob got a good shot of 2 of the chicks today. Thanks to Rob for his company today. Thanks to Baylie for bridging things between Diana’s departure and my arrival and as always keeping an eye on things daily from your place.

Euro spent alot of his day living on the edge. His sisters didnt really get too close. This is an indicator that Euro will likely fly in the very near future.

About 5pm-530pm it rained like mad. Kathy and I hid wherever we could to stay dry. One clap of thunder was so loud it seemed to startle Oconnor. She jumped immediately and flew back to the nestledge from the roof. Kathy jumped high enough she almost reached the ledge too!

At 710pm Oconnor fed the chicks from a stash she had had. At 750pm Jack went into a brilliant dive and plucked an European Starling from the air. He plucked that and fed it to 2 of the chicks. At 842pm Jack brought more food and delivered it to the 2 chicks that hadnt been fed by him yet.  At that point everyone went to bed and Tracy and I packed things up and went home.
