!!! Jack & The Crane
April 02, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Kathy Reports:
Things are quiet here and I’ve been seeing shift changes a few times a day if I’m lucky to be down there at the right time. Interestingly they are using one of the other towers for food stashing and meals now, as opposed to the corner of the building adjacent to the nest ledge as they did in past years. Which means they can’t see each other when one is there eating so they call to each other quite a bit now. I’m assuming it’s to let the other know they are still there.
Last week one of the buildings across the street had some heavy duty air conditioners installed on their roof. As that array of building is only 2 stories high, it normally wouldn’t concern our falcons at all however the crane they used sure had Jack’s attention.
It was interesting to watch his reaction as this big piece of metal suddenly stood up and was as high as the building they nest on. He was mesmerized by it, watching it go up and down and sometimes he’d be in a crouched position, ready for take off to do battle if he had to and then it would go back down and his posture would relax. He was twisting and turning his head trying to figure out what that intruder was!
This morning both Jack and Angel are on site and I was treated to a short game of tag and a bit of cooperative flying. Angel was in her nest box, I could see her head peeking out and Jack decided he wanted to play. So he started doing touch and goes at the ledge and chupping to her to entice her out for some fun. She seemed happy to oblige and they flew around the buildings and in front of the nest ledge playing tag and chupping happily. It only lasted a few minutes and then she retreated back to her nest and her eggs - the ones I assume are there!
