!!! 3 Peregrine Chicks Banded
June 04, 2010 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Frank Butson Reports:
On Friday June 4th,3 Peregrine Falcon chicks were banded. A good crowd of people gathered at the Sunlife Centre, just outside All Trans Financial to witness the event, while others outside watched the adults defend the nest. The 3 chicks were weighed, sexed, aged and banded by Mark Heaton of the Ministry of Natural Resources and his able assistants. Each chick had a black band with white alpha numeric numbers, which notes it as a Canadian bird in a recovery program and a US Fish and Wildlife band put on their legs.
The 3 chicks are:
DotCa: band 13/Y,a male,26 days old,weighing 695 grams,blue tape.
Blackberry:band 14/Y,male,27 days old,680 grams,green tape.
Mercedes:band 15/Y,a male,24 days old,660 grams,red tape.
Here is a video of the banding. Enjoy! http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=jqgobr&s=6
