!!! Banding Day
June 02, 2009 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel
Sarah Washington Reports:
Well the chicks at the Hamilton Nest Site were given their official “bling”, and by bling we mean their band numbers. These band numbers are their identification, so if one is ever found or seen nesting somewhere that is the only way that we can identify them and their family history. The Banding is completed with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
This year we have 3 large healthy girls and 1 smaller boy. The sex is determined based on their weight. Males tend to be smaller in weight but because they are lighter on their feet, will usually fly first.
They were looked over and given a clean bill of health which is what we always want to hear.
First flights may start around Father’s day, but given the fact that we have 3 girls…I think they may hold out longer.
Enjoy!
