One fledged, one on the ledge, one not in view
June 15, 2008 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:
As Jan has reported, The Sheraton has had it’s first fledge.
I made frequent checks on Belle who continued to dance around the roof of the “lower Adelaide St. building. When I first found her, she was on the railing of the cooling towers, later she had moved herself under the large pipes. She was probably trying to get out of the rain. I quick check on the ledge and I could only see the youngest bird, with still a lot of down on it.
The second bird was not in view. The first check I assumed it may be in behind the Osler camera. The second physical check on the ledge, I saw Tiago in the nest box. and one juvie sacked out behind the Olser camera. Rhea Mae was on the taller Adelaide St building. I’m not sure but I think perhaps that the high winds may have blown a juvie into an unintentional flight. Not that it was premature, just not intended for that time. Only seeing one juvie twice had me concerned.
Scanning the roof tops and various ledges in the area and trying to track the direction Rhea was facing, I did not see anything. More storms on the horizon, and I could not stay in upper area any longer. I made my way back to King St. to let Zoe go home before the heavy storms arrived.
From about 6:30 p.m and on thunderstorms were rolling in back to back and by 8:00p.m. heavy wind and rain with frequent lightning made it impossible to monitor the nest sites. The watch was called at approximately 8:15p.m.
Will start again tomorrow.
