BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- Wildlife officials are searching for a shooter who killed a peregrine falcon near Brigham City.

The bird is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Killing one could carry a sentence of six months in jail and a $15,000 fine.

Nearby hunters heard a shot and went to investigate in the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. They saw a truck pulling a duck boat leave the area, then found the bird in a ditch.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
