Young man held for selling falcons

New Delhi: Wildlife Department of Delhi Government on Friday arrested a youth after two exotic birds Peregrine falcons, one alive and another dead, were found from his possession in North Delhi.

The accused has been identified as Ajim Khan of New Friends Colony. He was waiting for the prospective buyer at Sunhari Masjid area to sell the birds, the act which is placed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The birds are captured and smuggled to middle-east countries or sold as pets to people.

The arrest was made by Delhi Wildlife inspectors in the presence of representatives of People for Animals and Wildlife Trust of India, who had tipped-off the police about the incident. — PTI
