July 13, 2002 -- Several days prior to their release, the outer tail feathers of two of the three peregrines were bleached to allow each individual to be easily identified from a distance during the monitoring period. This procedure was proposed by the Canadian Peregrine Foundation based on the success of other researchers tracking vultures and condors, and was approved for use on these peregrines by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Horus, in this photo, had the three outermost feathers on the right side of his tail bleached.
