In October 2001, we visited Sunningdale Public School in Oakville, with our young male peregrine falcon "Oscar". Below is a letter from one of the teachers:
The
Grade 4 and Grade 6 students of Sunningdale Public School were delighted to have
Tracy Simpson and Oscar the peregrine falcon visit with us on Wednesday, October
10th. Both Grades listened in amazement as Tracy told us interesting facts
about the falcons and how they were wiped out of Ontario but have managed to
come back to live in our Province. She also went into great details
explaining Falcon habitats and how the food chain works. Of course, the
highlight, was seeing Oscar in real life and watching
how he moves his head and fluffs up his wings. The children were
fascinated when Tracy brought Oscar right into the group to get excellent close
up views of him.
We would like to thank our sponsor the TD Canada Trust-Friends of the Environment for allowing Oscar to come to our school and share his story.
We are also grateful for the video and resource books that were donated to the school library. Many children have been using the booklets to gain further information about Peregrine Falcons.
Sincerely,
Mrs.
