In March 2000, we visited Prince Philip Public School in Hamilton with our one-year-old male peregrine falcon "Scotty". We haven't received any feedback from the students, but here is a letter from the school:
Dear
Canadian Peregrine Foundation,
Prince Philip School students were so thrilled to have Scotty and Amy visit our
school in March. Amy, your conservationist, was an excellent presenter of
information before we were introduced to Scotty, the peregrine falcon. We would
like to thank you for making our students aware of the endangered species as
well as the facts about our very own peregrine nest in downtown Hamilton.
The video that you left for the school library and the Talon Tales magazine are
a wonderful addition to our resource materials. Many students have already
looked in the website as they are so looking forward to tracking the falcons
when they leave. The presentation has certainly sparked our students'
interest in the geographical and mathematical possibilities that they will be
able to track when this occurs.
All of the staff, teacher interns, and students were amazed when Amy presented
Scotty the peregrine falcon to us. Everyone was amazed at Scotty's beauty
and magnificence. Students were in awe with his presence and were ecstatic
when they found out that we had adopted Scotty. His picture and adoption
papers hang in the front foyer of our school for all to see. We are all so proud to have donated to the Peregrine Foundation to
help this endangered species.
We hope that many other schools will make this a highlight of their
environmental teachings. Thanks again, and we look forward to following
the falcons on your website.
Sincerely,
Ruth Ann MacFarlane, Principal
