In November 1999, we visited Park Public School in downtown Toronto with our 9-year-old peregrine falcon "Qetesh". We haven't received any feedback from the students, but here is a comment from the librarian:
The presentation was excellent. Our students are inner city children who have very little opportunity to leave their downtown neighbourhood. Environmental messages are merely platitudes to children who see little or not wildlife - but seeing the falcon live and having the opportunity to question experts makes the abstract concept of endangerment very real. The two presenters paced their material well and could answer the questions in appropriate language to a ESL audience. It was Friday afternoon, when our students would be generally very unfocused - but you could hear a pin drop. The questions carried on for an unusual length of time.
Many thanks, Helen Wolfe, librarian
