In November 2002, we visited Baden's North Wilmot Public School with 'Falon', our female juvenile peregrine. Below is a letter from the principal:
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the students and staff of North Wilmot Public School to thank you for coordinating The Canadian Peregrine Falcon Project School Visit.
Our grade 4 and 5 classes were most impressed with the opportunity to learn about and see first-hand this most majestic bird. The presenter (Maya), was most informed and spoke passionately to the students about the importance of protecting the species. Her presentation, interjected with humour maintained students' interest throughout. The students left with a greater appreciation as to how mismanagement by humans could potentially cause extinction of the species.
Thanks to TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment (funding provided to deliver the school program) and other environmental groups, it would appear that the long-term status of the peregrine foundation is most promising. Students have an increased knowledge of the peregrine falcon and as a result are able to transfer information learned to understand how individuals and groups help other species recover and increase their populations.
Once again, thank you for arranging for this classroom program at North Wilmot Public School.
