In February 2002 we visited Toronto's Lord Dufferin Public School with Qetesh, one of our peregrine falcons. Below are drawings from two of the students and a letter from the school:
In February 2002, we had the privilege of a visit from the
Canadian Peregrine Foundation and to see up close a live peregrine.
On behalf of the one hundred grade 4 and grade 5 students who were able
to benefit from the Canadian Peregrine Foundation presentations, thank
you. The pamphlets and video left for our library will be valuable
educational tools for future classes. Without the financial
support of the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment Foundation,
all this would just not have been possible. We are an inner city school in downtown Toronto. We appreciate very much this opportunity for our students in expanding their general knowledge and in gaining a better understanding of the environment. In particular, the work of support for endangered species is of particular application to the environmental science curriculum in these Junior grades. The students made many comments of interest, produced artwork and completed research questions based on the presentations. Thank you again to all involved in making science come alive for our students, and in demonstrating the fragile balance in our environment. Yours sincerely, Dinny Biggs, Resource Teacher |
