In November 2001, we visited King George VI Public School in Sarnia, with our barn owl, Seamus. Below is a letter from the school and a drawing from one of the grade 3 students:
The Grade 3, 4, 5, and 6 students at our school were
recently treated to an amazing presentation about the peregrine
falcon. The presenter was adept at actively involving the students
throughout the entire program. Her questions were well suited at
bringing out the knowledge of the students and extending that knowledge.
Nearly all of the students had previously read the novel "Owls in the Family". This program gave them the opportunity to see a living barn owl! Their study of this novel has now become so much more meaningful and memorable because it has been brought to life. The presentation also reinforced the students' study of the food chain and how and why DDT had such a disastrous effect on the peregrine falcon. A special thank you to the sponsor, TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation. This was a presentation that the students will always remember. Sincerely, Patty Strickland |
