Project School Visit:
Keatsway Public School (Waterloo)

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation

In March 2001, we visited  Public School in , with our ten-year-old female peregrine falcon "Qetesh".  Below are some comments from the school:

April 6, 2001

Dear friends,

Mr. Nash visited our school on Wednesday, March 21 / 01 and his presentation on the peregrine falcon was outstanding! My class was really interested in all of the information he shared and they were truly amazed that Toby and Alberta were able to raise a family on the ledge of an office building. Awareness of endangered species and the causes for the endangerment play a huge role in educating children about protecting what we have. Both of these issues are an integral part of the Science program.

For my class this year, the presentation was most relevant in that we are studying habitats and we had just finished reading a story about "Albert", a young peregrine who had trouble learning to fly. We are also studying Ancient Egypt so the name Qetesh really caught their attention.

Nothing compares to the beauty of Qetesh herself. All of the students were thrilled to have the opportunity to see this magnificent bird up close and to learn of the wonderful adaptations she has for her phenomenal diving speed.

As a class, we would like to thank Friends of the Environment for providing us with this awesome opportunity. Please keep this program going - it is truly one of the best in bringing animal wildlife and the serious concern of endangered species to children.

Sincerely,

Grade 4 / 5 & Mrs. M.L. Schmidt
