In November 1998, we visited the High Park Montessori School with a live male peregrine falcon named "Calypso". We haven't yet received any feedback from the students, but here is a letter from the principal:
On behalf of all the children at High Park Montessori School I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Canadian Peregrine Foundation for a most informative and entertaining visit to our school. All the children were fascinated to learn how vulnerable falcons are and what is happening to protect them. They were particularly interested to know that there is a falcon's nest in the west end at Islington Avenue, and are now on the look out for them in the sky!
"Calypso" was a big hit. The 6-9 year olds were mesmerized to see such a large, "real live bird" in the classroom. The older children have enjoyed researching the whole area of birds of prey and I think you will probably receive some comments from them shortly.
We would like to say a special thank you to the experts who shared their knowledge with the children in such an engaging way. The visit was a big success and has generated a considerable interest in the whole aspect of endangered species.
With best wishes,
Breffni MacMahon, Principal
