Project School Visit:
The Toronto Heschel School (Toronto)

Visit sponsored by:  TD Friends of the Environment Foundation

In the spring of 2001, we visited the Toronto Heschel School with our female peregrine falcon "Qetesh".  Below is a letter from the school:

It is with my sincere gratitude that I write this letter to thank you for your invaluable assistance in connecting the teachers and students of the Toronto Heschel School with your birds and your useful work.  Your visit, Mark and Marion, with the Peregrine, and with the fabulous presentation you made in three separate units to our 250 students was very impressive and totally enthralled all of us.  Many of the teachers commented on the value of the interactive methods you have developed with the children.

Our teachers have found that the materials you printed are very in synch with the Ontario Curriculum.  Our Grade Sixes and Sevens are presently working with your lesson plans and connecting daily to your website as they integrate their studies on Flight, Endangered Species, Birds and Classification of Living Things with our additional Hebrew curriculum.

We have entered into another programme, called "Wings Across the Ocean" pairing our students via the Internet with other students in Israel who are learning about their local Lesser Kestrel.

Thank you for allowing our students to learn of your efforts and to be fortunate to meet people like yourselves who are making a difference.  This is truly what teachings is all about.  Next year, we need to continue our relationship as it is our hope to integrate this amazing project into our curriculum again.

Yours truly,

Ellen Kessler, Environmental Programme Representative
