Seamus is a North American Barn Owl, hatched in captivity at the Owl Foundation in the spring of 2001. The result of inbreeding between siblings, Seamus would be unable to reproduce once mature, and is therefore not suited for release to the wild, or for keeping in the captive breeding program. The only remaining option for Seamus was education, which is how he ended up coming to the Canadian Peregrine Foundation. Seamus has adapted well to being around humans, and has become an important part of the CPF Education Program as the key educator for our new "Owl Unit". Seamus is already helping to raise awareness about the plight of the endangered Barn Owl and the challenges faced by it and other owl species at risk across Canada. |
