In October 2002, we visited Durham's Durham District Community School with one of our female peregrine falcons "Falon". Below is a comment from the school as well as drawings from the students:
This fall our school had the pleasure of a visit by Maya Basdeo and a Peregrine Falcon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and in particular the Friends of the Environment Foundation and the Toronto Dominion Bank for making this visit possible. Some examples of how the Peregrine Falcon has direct connection to the Junior curriculum include: preservation of habitat; protection from extinction; Gr. 4 Science - Life Systems and the Food Chain; Gr. 5 Science - Energy and Control, effects of pollution on animal's and human's habitats; and Gr. 6 Science - Flight and Classification of Animals.
We were able to have our Grade 4 students from our twin school Saugeen Valley Elementary School join our Grade 5 & 6 students here at Durham District Community School. Thank you once again and thank you to your sponsors for making this educational opportunity available to our students.
Sincerely
Mr. J. Lehmann Vice-Principal
