On April 02, 2003 we visited Westwood Public School with one of our peregrine falcons. Below are letters and a drawing we received from the school.
The grade 4 students were pleased to attend the presentation on April 2nd. It was very educational for all my students. The presenter - Maya Basdeo, was very enthusiastic and could be well heard. We are presently studying food chains and food webs. The entire presentation talked about predator, prey ... habitat. The discussion of DDT affecting the peregrine falcon was very pertinent to our understanding of bio-accumulation and human intervention. It also tied into our unit on health - calcium for bones (or egg shells). We are now studying adaptations so I was happy to hear about how the size of the falcon and the construction of its head and nose affect flight. Since the students just finished studying medieval times, they were interested in the use of the gauntlet and hawking. When asked, "What did you enjoy most?" they all agreed on seeing the female falcon, especially when she tried to fly. Many liked the short film too. Thank you TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment - for providing funding of the this presentation to schools for junior students. It was great! The

Thank you so much for your presentation. Everything was excellent. The Students received lots of great information and the variety of the presentation - using video, games and the falcon - kept the students' attention. We are very thankful to you and TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment for making this program available. Mrs.
