In February 2003, we visited Mooretown Courtright Public School in Mooretown with our juvenile female peregrine falcon "Falon". Below is a comment from the school and some drawings from the students:
On February 28th, our school was fortunate to have been visited by Falon the falcon, along with her keeper, Maya Basdeo. It was such an enlightening experience that we did not want to miss the opportunity to thank you.
The grades 3/4, 4/5 and 6 classrooms were part of this special presentation, and I don't think that one of us - both teachers and students - walked away without being thoroughly impressed. Maya's vast knowledge, the professionalism with which she handled the session, the awe of visiting with a falcon, and the materials left for us to use, were wonderful.
It was so easy to book the visit with the pre-visit material that you sent, and the promptness with which the call was answered when I went to book. Maya was right on time, even early, and the presentation went so smoothly because she sure knew exactly what she was doing. It is quite surprising how this information fits in well with the junior curriculum. One staff member has already used the video, and I will be using the booklets during our grade six unit on "The Diversity of Living Things".
A couple of my students wanted to draw Falon, and I am passing on these drawings to you. The thanks comes from all 73 students who took part in your presentation, and the three staff members who appreciate the worthy use of our school time.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Vanderbeld - Grade 6 Teacher
