On April 14, 2003 we visited Maple Lane Public School with one of our raptors. Below are comments and drawings inspired by the visit:
My grade four students are still talking about Oscar. He was so well behaved. He also made headlines in the Tillsonburg Independent News. Maya also presented many interesting facts about peregrine falcons. We also enjoyed her enthusiasm and upbeat manner. Earlier in the year in Science we had explored factors affecting various habitats and how animals satisfy their needs in specific habitats. Maya's presentation reinforced many of the concepts we discussed in Science: food chain system, habitat, population, ecological niche, predators. I believe my students now have a better understanding of the decline of this rare bird and the efforts to help the species recover. In previous years Maple Lane Environment Club has been involved with Project Adoption. We care about our environment at Maple Lane. We would like to thank the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment for providing this unique program on the recovery of the peregrine falcon. Yours in Education, Lucy Mainville, Grade 4, Maple Lane
