In February 2003, we visited Fairport Beach Public School in Pickering with our female peregrine falcon "Qetesh". Below is a letter from the school and letters and drawings from the students:
The students and staff at Fairport Beach P.S. would like to thank the Ontario Power Generation for sponsoring the recent presentation we enjoyed about the Canadian Peregrine.
The outstanding presentation introduced the students and staff to the biology of this rare bird, the reasons behind its decline, and the efforts that are being made to save it from extinction. This presentation met many expectations in grade 4 and 6 curriculum and afforded us additional opportunities to write letters to our phenomenal speaker Maya to thank her for an informative and energetic presentation. Students have gained a new understanding of the peregrine and how it fits into their lives.
We commend the Ontario Power Generation for sponsoring such a worthy project.

Thank you so much for coming to
Fairport Beach Public School to talk about your information. I've
learned a lot about the peregrine falcon. I also really liked Qetesh. Qetesh is the first peregrine falcon I've seen that had been living with people all her life. Also that she's more like a person than a bird. I think because of your visiting schools and everyone listening, peregrine falcons will not even be threatened because everyone will listen to you. Thank you very much for telling us
about the peregrine falcon. I'd really like to help the birds to
become healthy again. I really liked that male peregrine falcons can
dive up to 400 kph. But that wouldn't be too much fun to go bungie
jumping at that speed. Qetesh is the first peregrine falcon I've ever seen. Qetesh was a very well behaved bird. It must be fun to work with a falcon all day. Morgan

Thank you for coming to Fairport Beach
to talk about peregrine falcons and talking about how endangered they are. I learned that Qetesh was the first peregrine falcon to help the government. I also learned that peregrine falcons made homes on some high parts of buildings because it reminds them about the mountains. I hope that more and more peregrine falcons come to our city and Qetesh will not die soon and that Ariel and Falon will grow up to be great falcons like Qetesh. Gabrielle |
