Project School Visit:
Hagersville Elementary
On February the 22nd, 2006, we visited Hagersville's Hagersville Elementary. Below is a letter from the school.
Thank you so much for affording us the wonderful opportunity of a visit from an educator and one of your falcons. Our Grade 6 and Grade 4 students had a fabulous time learning about and discussing issues involving falcons.
Our read aloud book in class the week previous to the visit was on peregrine falcons so the students appreciated the opportunity to apply some of their knowledge during the discussion. The information about DDT is always quite startling and educational for students. Some of the students were also aware that the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton has been a home to nesting peregrine falcons, complete with web cam and volunteer 'flight controllers' for some years, so the information was of great interest.
Maya, the lovely young woman who was our educator was wonderful...interesting and entertaining and well able to control large group in very subtle and tactful ways...always the mark of an exemplary teacher! She was fabulous!
How wonderful that the sponsorship of Ontario Power Generation allows you to offer this educational program. This is excellent environmental corporate citizenship.
Thank you for the video and student guides. They are a great resource for the 'Diversity of Life' (Grade 6) and 'Habitat' (Grade 4) science strands. We know that you will put our cheque to good use. The students enjoyed the excellent picture which appeared in our local paper. Thanks again.
V. Leveille,
Grade 6 Teacher
