Project School Visit:
Summitview Public School
On September the 21st, 2004, we visited Stouffville's Summitview Public School. Below is a letter from the school.
It seems incomprehensible that the visit from Michael and Sanchos
was only three days ago. The children have explored so many
integrated activities surrounding the reality of Ontario's endangered
wildlife, the causes of their plight and the efforts being made to
reintroduce the extraordinary birds. This is being executed with real
compassion and dedication to scientific study.
The presentation made a huge impact on the ninety students involved
in the two interactive events. The professional adherence to the
Ontario curriculum plus the clarity of delivery and responses of the
students, verified these results.
Since the school visit we have written journals, drawn pictures,
created a food pyramid, and enjoyed pictures taken by the librarian, Mrs. Wilde. This afternoon the principal came in and started the
novel, My Side of the Mountain. She will join us over the term to
share the reading of this novel, with parents or Mrs. Valleau.
Bringing wildlife into the classroom teaches young people to have an
early respect for the wonders of the world. The greatest gift was the
cost. No cost. Thank you on behalf of the children and their teachers.
Sincerely,
Trudy E. Valleau
