roject School Visit:
Jack Callaghan Public School

Visit sponsored by: The Friends of the Environment Foundation - Peterborough/Lindsay

On November the 15th, 2004, we visited Lindsay's Jack Callaghan Public School. Below are two letters from the school.

On behalf of myself and the other teachers whose students had the opportunity to attend your very informative presentation, I would like to thank you for coming to our school and speaking with our students. The students in my class found the presentation very interesting, and many left the presentation much more interested in falcons and birds of prey than they had been before hand. The presenter, Michael Fazackerley did a fantastic job, deliverying a great deal of information in a very limited time frame. He also answered all the students questions about falcons in a clear manner that they were able to understand. The presentation ties-in well to our upcoming science unit on the diversity of living things. In this unit, we will explore classifying living creatures based on their structural characteristics, birds being one of our major topics of study.

The members of the Jack Callaghan staff would like to also thank TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment for making it possible for the Canadian Peregrine Foundation to visit our school. Without TD Canada Trust's support, the students of this school would most likely not have had the opportunity to see this wonderful presentation.

Sincerely,
David Short

On Monday, November 15th Michael Fazackerley visited our school to share his information and knowledge about Peregrine Falcons. The presentation was very well received by my class of grade four and five students.

The video was helpful in giving them some background to the problems facing peregrine falcons and what is being done to help them. Michael’s discussion and simulation of the distribution and spreading of DDT amongst the animal kingdom was very effective. He spoke to the students in a meaningful and clear way and was very in tune to their attention level and concentration. His presentation was appropriate for the grade four/five audience as well as older students. The students were very impressed by the falcon he had with him and he made sure they knew the appropriate behavior before and during its visit.

The presentation was excellent and I would recommend it to any school. The fact that the visit was free thanks to TD Bank Friends of the Environment Foundation was even more attractive and it would be wonderful if you could continue to offer your visits to other schools. Good luck in your mission.

Sincerely
