Project School Visit:
Winchester Public School

Visit sponsored by: Ontario Power Generation Pickering

On January the 21st, 2004, we visited Brooklin's Winchester Public School. Below is a letter sent to us by Jennifer Thompson, a Grade 4 teacher there.

On behalf of students and staff at Winchester Public School, I would like to extend sincere thanks.

We were fortunate to have all of our junior students attend Mya's presentations this morning. She was an energetic and captivating educator and held the attention of even the most excitable students throughout the presentation. Ariel, too, had amazing stage presence.

Everyone who attended the presentation about Peregrine Falcons and their experience in the environment over the past 35 years came away with a real awareness of what needs to be done to protect species in our environment. We had great discussions with our classes about the food chain, DDT and the need for us to take responsibility and do everything we can to help our environmentand everything in it.

Staff enjoyed the presentation and the opportunity to view a live Peregrine Falcon just as much as the students and everyone walked away with new knowledge. I heard many positive comments about the value of the presentation and its appropriate link to the science and social studies curricula.

Thank you for providing us this unique learning opportunity.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Thompson
Grade 4 Teacher
