Project School Visit:
Monsignor Clancy Elementary School
On May the 18th, 2004, we visited Thorold's Monsignor Clancy Elementary School. Below is a letter from some of the teachers there.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for arranging for Mia
and Ariel to come to our school. On behalf of the Grade 4 classes of Monsignor
Clancy School that participated in this special program, we would also like to
send our appreciation to the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment, who
provided the funding for this wonderful presentation. The students enjoyed the
video and learned many facts about Peregrine Falcons and the effects of DDT.
They especially loved getting to see Ariel and listening to Mia tell them about her
best friend.
As teachers we appreciated how the presentation linked directly to our
Science unit on Habitats and Communities. It reinforced many important concepts
and vocabulary like the features of a healthy habitat, food chains, endangered
species and the positive and negative effects man has on the environment.
Our presenter, Mia, was well prepared, knowledgeable and very
entertaining. We were most impressed by her ability to encourage better listening
and participation by our students.
Your work with the Peregrine Falcon and your efforts to reach the children
of Ontario is to be commended. Thank you so much!
Sincerely in education,
The Grade Four Teachers of Monsignor Clancy
