Our Junior students (Grades 4-6) just attended the Peregrine Falcon presentation offered by your organization and I have nothing but thanks and positive comments to share with you. Let me begin by thanking your organization and the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment program for making this experience available to our students. With rising costs and increasing cut backs to funding, opportunities like this are a valuable commodity indeed. I hope you can extend our sincere appreciation to the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment for their funding. It is money well spent.
Ms. Maya Basdeo, our presenter, braved a winter storm to bring "Arial" to visit our students today.
She also brought genuine enthusiasm to her presentation and it is clear that she loves the job she is doing. She is knowledgeable, animated and organized. The students responded well to her up-tempo style and it was apparent during the question and answer period that they had learned much from the information she presented.
This presentation connects directly to my Science and Social Studies curriculum. We are, at this time of the year, studying Vikings (who were known for their falconry skills) and Flight. Later this term, we will study the Diversity and Classification of Living Things and I will make use of the excellent resources Ms. Basdeo brought to the school. I was most impressed by Ms. Basdeo's explanation of the impact of DDT on our world. Later this term, we will begin a unit on Canada and its Trading Partners and a discussion about Canada's manufacture and trade of this dangerous chemical and its use in South American countries (from where we get many of fruits and vegetables) will certainly be highlighted with reference to today's presentation.
Thank you again for making this presentation possible. I hope you continue to receive the funding
required to keep environmental educators like Ms. Basdeo in the schools.
