Project School Visit:
Burford District Elementary School

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation Brantford

On December the 4th, 2003, we visited Burford's Burford District Elementary School. Below is a letter from the school.

Thank you for the informative and entertaining Peregrine Falcon presentation. Our students thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ariel, the Peregrine Falcon, and listening to Miah, teach us about falcons' natural habitats, humans' impact on the falcons' environment and other interesting facts.
"Seeing a real, live falcon made listening to the presentation more relevant and interesting", says a grade 5 student. Another student said, "a guest speaker and falcon captured my interest and made me more aware of endangered species and how humans can negatively effect their habitats".

The presentation and Peregrine Falcon Unit you provided us with are closely related to curriculum expectations. For example: "-demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of habitat and community, and identify the factors that could affect habitats and communities of plans and animals; -describe ways in which humans can change habitats and the effects of these changes on the plants and animals within the habitats; -investigate ways in whcih natural communities within ecosystems can change, and explain how such changes can affect animal and plant populations; -formulate questions about and identify the needs of various living things in an ecosystem, and explore possible answers to these questions and ways of meeeting these needs", are sample government expectations from our elementary curriculum.

We would also like to thank the TD Canada Trust - Friends of the Environment for providing funding so that the Peregrine Falcon program could be delivered to our school, at no extra charge to us.

With Sincere Appreciation,

Burford District Elementary School
