March - April 2004

Thursday April 29, 2004
Allen Middlebro reports:
I work at 360 Albert St on the 18th floor. A couple days ago I had a visitor outside my window, I figured you might be interested in the best of the pictures. Right now I can see her preening (her perch is about 12 feet from me), and I can clearly see the small metal anklet on her foot.

Food does not appear to be a problem, I watched her dismantle a small pigeon last week, and there is plenty of evidence around the perch that this was not the first such meal. She seems to spend never more than about 30 minutes here at a time, usually preening, at the moment concentrating on her feather on her upper chest and back.

The photos were taken on Friday the 23rd of April from the 18th floor of the office building at 350 Albert St., downtown Ottawa. Because the building is mirrored glass, she either cannot see or is not disturbed by me shuffling around trying to get pictures... I took the pictures, and will be sure to bring my Digital camera to work more often in hopes of getting more shots.

Eve Ticknor reports:
This afternoon, around 4pm, I was able to see at least 3 eggs, and maybe 4! I'll continue to monitor the roof observation post every few days. I expect the hatch to occur around the middle of May.

Sunday April 18, 2004
Eve Ticknor reports:
I was on the roof for about an hour today but still didn't get to see the eggs. Conner was on the eggs while Horizon was preening on the northwest corner of Tower A. She had probably just eaten. After a bit she flew behind Tower C where I lost her. As Connor seemed agitated while he was on brooding duty, I left the roof to try again another day soon.

Eve Ticknor reports:
Ottawa Falcons Brooding! I can confirm that Horizon is brooding as of mid afternoon today. A maintenance worker at the Constitution Square saw her on the nest this morning. My guess is that she has only been brooding full time for a day or 2.

She has picked the same spot as 2 years ago, on the east side near the south corner in front of the 1st column! I'll be going up this weekend to hopefully count eggs.......

Sunday April 11, 2004
Eve Ticknor reports:
I watched Horizon around noon today, trying to call Connor down to her. He flew around overhead and out of my sight. When that didn't work, she flew after him! She had been sitting on the northeast corner of Tower 1, Constitution Square. Later on, around 3pm, she was on the southwest corner of Tower B, no Connor in sight.

M. Arlene Williams reports:
10:51 am - Our beautiful and magnificent Horizon is perched on the northwest corner of the Crowne Plaza Hotel building and she is facing my office window, so I see her in all her glory. She is truly a beautiful raptor to behold. From the amount of time that she spends on this corner of the building, as done Connor who normally prefers the southeast corner of the same building, I think that Bob Boisvert was correct in his prediction that Horizon may lay her eggs on the lower ledge area of the hotel building. No sign at the moment of her beloved partner. More to come.

Thursday April 01, 2004
M. Arlene Williams reports:
3:30 pm - Horizon is perched on the northwest corner of the Constitution Square building and Connor is facing inward on the west side of the ledge area of the Crowne Plaza hotel building between pillars 3 and 4.

3:51 pm - Horizon has ventured off for parts unknown, but she does seem to prefer perching between the northwest corners of the Crowne Plaza hotel building and on the same corner of the Crowne Plaza hotel building. She was perched on the northwest corner of the Crowne Plaza building this afternoon for approximately 1 hour or so and since I can see all the northwest and northwest sides of both buildings, I hope to be reporting frequently on her and his activities.

Wednesday March 31, 2004
M. Arlene Williams reports:
5:18 pm - Horizon is perched on the northwest corner of the Constitution Square building - her favourite perch - facing west and appears to make up her mind on what will be for dinner, this evening. Connor is currently located on the northwest corner of the Crowne Plaza Hotel building waddling along between pillars 2 and 3. He has just jumped down to the lower ledge area.

5:20 pm - Connor has flown off in the direction of his partner but bypassed her perch area and has circled the Constitution Square building heading east.

Brenda Sharpe reports:
2: 30 pm - Hi folks, I just observed what looked for all the world like a mating taking place at the south-east corner of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Sunday March 14, 2004
Eve Ticknor reports:
11:45 am. Horizon is sitting on the north-west corner of the Constitution square building. Tower 1 Conner is between the 3rd and 4th pillar of the crown plaza on the west side. Horizon flies off going north and I lose sight of her for about 5 minutes. she then flies back and lands very close to Conner between the fourth and fifth pillars. After a few seconds she goes back to her perch on the Constitution. Then Conner joins her very briefly and with a little vocalizing. He then returns to the Crown plaza and lands on west side again between the first and second pillar. its great to see both on the Crown at the same time!

Saturday March 13, 2004
Eve Ticknor reports:
1:20 pm. Conner is sitting on the north-east corner of the Crown Plaza. No sign of Horizon at this time.

Friday March 12, 2004
Bob Boisvert reports:
Hello all, I have seen one of the falcons spending time below the ledge, around the old nest site on the north-east corner of the Crowne Plaza hotel. Could this be this year's site?? I am not sure which of the two was prepping the site.

PS. Sadly, I have moved to a different floor of Place de Ville Tower C, and I no longer have ongoing access to look out for the falcons, but I may just visit there, once in a while.

Friday March 5, 2004
M. Arlene Williams reports:
12:16 pm - Off and on now for approximately 2 hours - Horizon has been perched on the northwest corner ledge area of the Crowne Plaza Hotelbuilding. No sign of her beloved.
