Banding Day

June 3rd, 2005

They grow up so quickly!!!! This is the most common comment from all who have watched these young peregrine chicks over the years, and this year is no exception.

With many thanks to all of our supporters and sponsors, the banding went off without a hitch. Thanks especially to Oxford Properties and All Trans Financial for their incredible support, and to the MNR for being there for both us and the birds.

Four very healthy peregrine chicks were delivered with great care from the roof nest ledge to the lobby of the east tower, where we identified them as being three very healthy female chicks and one very large (and very healthy) male chick.

At the average age of 26 days old, with the larger females weighting in at over 1080 grams, 1055 grams, 958 grams, and the male at 754 grams, it appears that life so far is very good!!

With Skyreach holding the "fort," so to speak, on the window-washing swing stage, along with Emma Fellows from the MNR, the four peregrine chicks received their new bands in front of a huge audience that assembled in the lobby of the Clarica Centre.

With Mark Heaton and Pud Hunter from the Ministry of Natural Resources at the helm, everything went without a hitch, and the chicks were returned to the nest ledge without incident.

A big thank you again to all of the CPF volunteers on hand to assist with the banding efforts, as well as building maintenance and security, and Skyreach Window Cleaning. Thank you to our hosts from Oxford Properties, our property manager Mr. Anthony Casalanguida, who made many of the arrangements for the day, and thank you and welcome to our new assistant property manager Ms. Mary Cordeiro. Thank you to Mr. Mike Alexander, CEO of All Trans, who provided the goodies and beverages and kindly allowed us to hold the banding outside their office suites.

A big thank you to Peregrine Protection for the camera support, allowing the web camera image to be provided to the CPF web site for your viewing pleasure.

Names submitted for the four Etobicoke chicks are as follows:

Oxford Properties submissions: All Trans submissions:
Male chick - Anthony Female chick - Adrianna
Female chick - Alexandra Female chick - Lola

Thank you all for your support!!
